Grain Storage

Зърносъхранение

In most countries around the world, grains are the most important food for the population. In addition, grains have a strongly expressed seasonal nature of production. This means that in order to provide the necessary food for the world's population, most of the global production of wheat, corn, barley, rice, sorghum and millet should be stored for a long period of time, ranging from a month to more than a year. The way in which grain is stored and its quality is vitally important and we do not compromise, always aiming to meet the high requirements of our customers.

With our 20 storage facilities and a total licensed storage capacity 365 000 tons we offer a quality service for storage of all types of grains, with each storage facility equipped with:

  • Electronic scales 14-18m
  • STORK automatic samplers
  • ERP computer systems
  • Laboratory with high quality NIR devices
  • High input and output capacity
  • Thermal control
  • Active ventilation
  • Dust control
  • 24/7 video surveillance and security system
  • Insurance of all stored products

Main principles of grain storage

Laboratory and analyses

At each ENTRY of grain in our storage facilities WE guarantee quality by:

  • Taking a sample

We take a sample from each vehicle with a STORK automatic sampler, a minimum of 5 different points with the minimum required sampling depth and quantity of the sample itself.

  • Sifting each sample taken

We sift each sample taken to check for infection and atypical smells.

  • Homogenizing the sample

We homogenize the sample through a divider to make the most accurate analysis. Then we separate the required amount according to the ISO standard for determining:
    - % quantity of diseased grains
    - % amount of foreign impurities
    - % quantity of broken grains
    - % amount of damaged grains

  • Monitoring the indicators

We monitor and guarantee the quality of each truck

  • Physical and chemical analysis

We use calibrated automated machines for physical and chemical analysis of the grains, minimizing the possibility of human error.

    - We use KERN moisture scales to determine the moisture of the grains.
    - PERTEN Falling number devices to measure enzyme activity.
    - NIR devices from FOSS and PERTEN for analyzing:

    • Test weight
    • Protein
    • Gluten

    • Energy
    • Hardness
    • Elasticity

  • Goods intake

If our quality standards and the conditions as required by the client are met, we accept the goods. Our centralized ERP computer system automatically takes the quality and quantity data from laboratory devices and scales, eliminating the possibility of human error.

Caring for the grain while it is stored with us

Once the grain has entered our facility for storage, we are materially responsible for its quantity and quality, and accordingly take care of it as follows:

  • At least once a week we check the temperature in each silo or warehouse.
  • Monitor for infestation.
  • If necessary to preserve the quality of the grain we can:
    • Organize Fumigation
    • Ventilate
    • Rotate the grain from one silo or warehouse to another for cooling
  • We are available to our clients 24/7, especially during the harvest campaign.
  • At each EXIT of grain from our facilities WE guarantee the quality => THE WHOLE CYCLE OF ANALYSIS.
  • Thanks to our high entry / exit rates of at least 1000 tons per day, our clients will never have to wait when meeting a deadline to deliver grains to port or a client.

We check each silo or warehouse on a weekly basis for:

  • Temperature
  • Moisture
  • Infestation

At the request of the client we can:

  • Blend grains to achieve required parameters.
  • Analyze loaded trucks from other destinations.

If necessary, we can:

  • Ventilate
  • Rotate
  • Fumigate

Types of storage

Sheds or under the sky

This type of storage is associated with high risks of quantitative losses and quality deterioration under the influence of weather conditions. For this reason, we at Grainstore use better and safer ways to store production, namely - flat warehouses and silos - for the longer-term needs of our clients.

Flat warehouses

All warehouses, equipment and inventory in Grainstore are subject to periodic preventive treatment against pests, and control of the quality and technical condition. All our flat warehouses are designed so that their walls can withstand the pressure of the grain, in order to avoid deformations, cracks and other damage, through which moisture or pests can then enter. Only service personnel or persons supervising the storage of grain may enter the grain storage warehouses. Quality control and safety always come first.

Warehouses for storage of grain and grain products must meet the following requirements:

  • To be solid, dry, mechanically cleaned, ventilated, without specific smell, disinfected and safe for access and inspection of the grain within.
  • The individual warehouse for storage of grain and grain by-products should be numbered in such a way as to be clearly seen.
  • The roofs, walls and floors of flat warehouses should be in a good condition without holes and cracks. Doors and windows should be tightly closed and protected with nets of fencing.

It is advisable to carry out periodic inspections of the condition of the warehouses, especially before the start of the harvest, before the onset of winter, after heavy rains and in the spring after the snow melts.

Silos

Grainstore has a total capacity of 77,500 tons of concrete and 85,000 tons of metal silos, located in almost all of our storage facilities in the country, which gives us a huge advantage due to the incredible benefits of storing in these facilities.
All our silos are automated and in excellent technological condition, which is maintained and managed by specialists in each of our storage facilities. The company maintains a specialized team of technicians and engineers who are available 24/7.
