The rape, also known as canola, is an agricultural crop that is cultivated all over the world. For the 2012/2013 campaign the production of rape in world scale reached the record of 62 million of tones, 19 million of which are cultivated in Europe. It is been used mostly for animal feed, the production of canola oil and biodiesel.

Our country has extremely good conditions for cultivating the rape. The biodiesel industry is making its first steps in the country but it already aroused the interest of the agricultural businessmen, transportation companies, bread factories and other industrial firms that depend on fuels. These interests of the farmers go in two ways. On one hand, they want to use the biodiesel as an alternative fuel for their equipment. On the other hand, they are stimulated to cultivate sunflower, rape and other oleaginous crops.

In Bulgaria the production of rape is not as popular as in Europe or the USA but it gaining progress as it Is an excellent alternative of the sunflower in the south regions of the country where the less rain does not allow cultivating crops that need more water. The average dibbled area with rape is under 2 million acres and the export rarely exceeds 200 000 tones. In Grainstore we sort the rape by humidity, waste impurities and oil content.
